Minor phreatomagmatic eruption occurs at Taal volcano
A minor phreatomagmatic eruption occurred at Taal Volcano on Friday afternoon, according to footage shared by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The eruption, the PHIVOLCS said, occurred at 1:45 p.m. at the Taal Main Crater and generated a 200-meter plume on the western and northern rims of the main crater.
In March, PHIVOLCS shared that two volcanic earthquakes and a volcanic tremor were recorded within a 24-hour period, also emitting 2,039 tonnes of sulfur dioxide.
Alert Level 1 remains over Taal Volcano, indicating a low level of unrest.
Entry into Taal Volcano Island is prohibited as it is currently a Permanent Danger Zone, particularly the Main Crater and Daang Kastila fissures as well as occupancy and boating on Taal Lake. — BAP, GMA News
