A state of calamity has been declared in Baguio City due to the oil crisis.

This developed after the city council unanimously adopted Resolution No. 257 series of 2026, aligning with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s earlier declaration of a national state of emergency.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong signed the resolution.

Following the declaration, the city government can now access its local disaster risk reduction and management funds to address the impact of the energy supply disruptions due to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

The city government may likewise mobilize resources, enforce necessary regulations, and coordinate effectively with national agencies in the implementation of the unified package of interventions.

The increasing fuel prices have adversely affected Baguio City, with tourist arrivals dropping as much as 50% during the Holy Week.

As part of their measures, the local government earlier rolled out free rides and an emergency mobility program.—LDF, GMA News
