14 hurt after vengeful miner who was beaten up for molesting woman hurls IED

Fourteen persons were injured from an improvised explosive device (IED) that was hurled at a store by a vengeful miner in Baguio City early Monday morning.

In the report of Cindy Salvacio of GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon on Monday, the incident happened at Barangay Magsaysayat around 3:15 a.m.

Prior to the incident, the suspect, a 32-year old miner from Itogon, Benguet, was slapped and punched after he allegedly molested a woman at the establishment.

Based on CCTV footage, Baguio City Police Office found the suspect lighting the fuse of the suspected IED beside a parked car that he then threw at the store. He fled after throwing the explosive that landed on the roof of a store.

The blast injured 14 people, many of whom were commuters waiting for a ride at a nearby terminal.

The victims were rushed to a hospital. Nine persons are still under observation at the Baguio General Hospital.

Based on police investigation, the suspect was told to leave the store for allegedly insulted a woman at the premises.

“Yung suspek mayroon siyang binastos na isang babae, yun nga, sinampal siya nung babae. May tumulong din na bystander na nanuntok,” sabi ni Police Major Marcy Grace Marron, spokesperson, Baguio City Police Office.

(The suspect molested a woman who in turn slapped him. Some bystanders also punched him.)

The suspect, who was said to be drunk, went home but returned with the IED.

He was later arrested by police and is facing charges of multiple frustrated murder, acts of lasciviousness and violating the Safe Spaces Act
