An 18-year-old female motorcycle passenger died after she was run over by an ambulance that counterflowed at the Archbishop Reyes Avenue flyover in Cebu City on Tuesday.

According to the report of GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak's Fe Marie Dumaboc in “Saksi” on Wednesday, the female victim and her classmate were on their way to school when they were hit by an ambulance.

The victim fell on the ground and was run over by the ambulance, causing a severe head injury. Meanwhile, the driver of the motorcycle, her classmate, is in critical condition.

The investigation into the incident showed that the ambulance, which was bringing a patient to the Cebu City Medical Center, counterflowed. The impact of the collision heavily damaged the ambulance.

The family of the victim said they are undecided yet whether or not to enter into a settlement with the ambulance driver.

Meanwhile, the ambulance driver is now under custody of the traffic enforcement unit for investigation.

The Bureau of Fire Protection Cebu City, on the other hand, reminded emergency vehicle drivers to avoid doing counterflow as much as possible.

Following the recent accidents at the Archbishop Reyes Avenue flyover, the Cebu City Transportation Office will recommend prohibiting motorcycles from using the flyover. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/GMA News
