3 minors stranded in Bontoc mountain rescued

Three minors who got stranded while hiking up a mountain in Bontoc, Mountain Province were rescued by police, the Philippine National Police said Sunday.

The hikers went to a mountain in Agkuyo in Barangay Samoki to go trekking but later found themselves in a steep ravine where they could not get out.

One of the hikers was able to contact the police hotline. The Bontoc Municipal Police Station thereafter immediately conducted a rescue operation together with criminology interns.

Rescuers rappelled down the ravine to reach the hikers and were able to help them get out of the area.

No one among the hikers was seriously injured, the PNP said.

The PNP then advised the public, especially those who like to go hiking and trekking, to plan their trip well, bring the necessary equipment, and inform their families or local authorities where exactly they are heading as part of precautionary measures. —KG, GMA News
