Minor Strombolian activity observed anew at Mayon Volcano - PHIVOLCS
Another minor Strombolian activity was observed anew at the summit crater of Mayon Volcano on Sunday morning, April 19, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
The activity was captured at 4:10 a.m. by the Mayon Volcano Observatory and PHIVOLCS Quick Response Team.
This also marks the 104th consecutive day of effusive eruption at the volcano, producing incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (or uson), and frequent rockfalls.
Minor Strombolian activity is defined as a low-level, intermittent explosion that launches lava fountains and magma fragments from the crater.\
Alert Level 3 remains in effect over Mayon Volcano. Under Alert Level 3, evacuation is recommended in the 6-km radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) due to the danger of PDCs, lava flows, rockfalls, and other volcanic hazards. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA News
