BuCor breaks ground for P470-M jail facility in Palayan
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on Monday led the groundbreaking ceremony for a P470-million correctional facility in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija.
According to the bureau, the facility, which is slated to be erected in Barangay Pinaltakan, will accommodate up to 7,500 inmates or persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).
BuCor said the complex will include maximum-, medium-, and minimum-security camps; a Reception and Diagnostic Center; and a Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center.
It will also house a Correctional Institution for Women, vocational and livelihood facilities, agricultural production areas, in-facility courtrooms, and BuCor personnel housing.
The bureau added that the facility will be equipped with a perimeter fence with fortified walls, elevated guard towers, controlled entry points, advanced surveillance and communication systems, and solar lighting.
The 60-hectare site was donated by the Provincial Government of Nueva Ecija.
Meanwhile, BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. assured Governor Aurelio Umali and Palayan residents that the project will bring significant economic benefits to the city.
He said the facility will generate permanent jobs once operational, while local businesses and suppliers are expected to see increased demand for food, materials, and other services.
BuCor said the facility is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.—MCG, GMA News
