Another alleged hazing reported in PNPA

The Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) on Wednesday reported another hazing incident inside the campus involving cadets.

According to GMA News’ Jun Veneracion, PNPA acting director Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan said the incident was discovered on April 19, Sunday.

Two cadets sustained bruises on their feet after allegedly being struck by two upperclassmen.

Maranan said the two cadets involved in the alleged hazing are now in custody as investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Before this, over 20 fourth class cadets sustained injuries from the hazing incident inside the academy on April 3.

The victims reportedly suffered burns and injuries after being exposed to a mixture of drain cleaner and muriatic acid, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Three suspects were initially arrested and four more suspects have been identified.

Following the incident, the PNPA director and eight other officers have been relieved from their posts.

On Wednesday, the PNP said criminal charges have been filed against seven PNPA cadets and two police officers in connection  with the incident.

Initial findings showed that the April 3 hazing stemmed from an internal issue involving a cadet who intended to resign, with underclassmen allegedly punished after being blamed for the situation. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
