A river in Barangay Nuangan in Kidapawan City turned an unusual shade of blue, according to a report of GMA News’ Unang Balita on Wednesday.

Residents said the water initially appeared faintly bluish, then gradually turned bright over time.

The Kidapawan City Environment and Natural Resources Office said its assessment found that the discoloration was caused by natural residue from narra wood.

Authorities explained that narra releases a natural dye when soaked in water, which can alter the river’s color.

Such a phenomenon poses no harmful effects on humans or animals despite the river’s unusual color, according to the office.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA News
