500 fisherfolk in Aurora affected by fuel price hikes receive food packs from GMA Kapuso Foundation
Before they could even recover from the devastation brought by Super Typhoon Uwan in 2025, fisherfolk in Dilasag, Aurora are now also impacted by rising fuel prices.
In a "24 Oras" report on Wednesday, fisherman Erlie Recto said that his boat and fishnet were broken by the typhoon.
Before, when he and his fellow fisherfolk were able to fish far from shore, they would catch 30 kilos of fish.
But due to the rising prices of diesel, they now catch only 17 kilos of fish. When their catch is brought to buyers, they only receive P2,064. After buying ice for the fish, Erlie will only go home with P432.

"Bandang huli, maliit din ang kita po. Halos wala din po at dala ng diesel, ang mahal," fisherman Lemuel Ynigo said.
Because of the high petrol prices, only half of the members of the Diniog Mandaragat Association are able to fish.
To help them amid the crisis, GMA Kapuso Foundation gave out food packs to more than 500 fisherfolk in the province.
