LOOK: Mayon Volcano strombolian activity, lava effusion
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported increased volcanic activity at the Mayon Volcano on Thursday.
According to footage released by the agency, the volcano had lava effusion with collapse-fed pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) and short-lived lava fountaining between 2:15 a.m. to 2:17 a.m.
At 9:01 a.m., the volcano had minor Strombolian activity at the summit crater.
Both events created 100-meter ash plumes above the crater.
Due to said activities, the National Disaster for Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) issued an emergency message and warning alert for residents living near the volcano.
“Sumunod sa abiso ng awtoridad,” the advisory read.
