Store owners in Cavite fall victim to 'QR Code scam,' losing over P23k in e-wallet
Store owners in Cavite have become the latest victim of the "QR Code scam" or "QR Code phishing," according to a report of Ian Cruz on "State of the Nation."
The owners lost more than P23,000 from their e-wallet when a person requested to "cash in" using a QR Code.
A CCTV footage showed a man who requested to cash in P220 in a store in Imus, Cavite. However, the man said he did not receive the cash in that he transacted.
He then asked to re-scan a new QR Code.
The man and his companions immediately left the establishment, though this was not seen in the CCTV.
When the store owner checked their e-wallet, it was found that they are already linked to an online shopping app.
She said that the payments that they receive in their e-wallet is used by someone else.
The suspects were able to do six transactions amounting to more than P23,000 using the money in the store owner's e-wallet.
The store owners were already able to file a complaint.
