Girl rescued after hand gets caught in meat grinder

A 17-year-old girl was rescued after her hand was caught in a meat grinder while making sausage at a public market in Polomolok, South Cotabato on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

Members of a medic team assisted the victim before rushing her to a hospital for treatment.

The girl sustained injuries to one finger.

"Gipadala na lang sa hospital, bisag gamay lang kaayo pero naipit sakitan," a witness said.

Based on reports, the victim was preparing to wrap ground meat in casings when the grinder malfunctioned.

She turned the machine off to troubleshoot but her hand was pulled in, instead.

"Gi-off man niya ang galingan. Pag off niya wala siya nag expect nga katung nagagiling may last breath pa siya kumbaga…ang tanan niyang kamot nasulod pero ang napuruhan kani lang," the girl's mother, Liezel Florentino, said.

The girl is now in stable condition but traumatized by the incident.

Florentino said the doctor confirmed that the bones were intact but the soft tissue was damaged and required stitches.

Florentino assured that no contamination occurred in the food being prepared and reminded other chorizo makers to exercise caution when using meat grinders to avoid similar accidents. GMA Regional TV
