2 dead, 1 hurt in Cotabato jewelry heist

Two people were killed while another was injured after they were shot by individuals they reportedly bought jewelry from in Barangay Poblacion 8, Midsayap, Cotabato on Monday, May 11, 2026.

Based on investigation, the victims, residents of Cotabato City and Maguindanao del Norte, had gone to purchase gold jewelry from agents based in Lanao del Sur.

However, after the supposed transaction ended, the suspects allegedly shot the victims and carted the items away.

Residents traced the victims’ vehicle that had fallen into a canal following the gunfire.

Using a metal pipe, they opened the driver’s window and found the lifeless body of a 43-year-old man. His 54-year-old companion was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Another passenger sustained injuries and is now receiving treatment.

Police are pursuing the suspects, as of this writing, while investigation into the incident continues.—Efren Yunting Mamac, GMA Regional TV News
