Flooded bridge strands Alamada, Cotabato residents for 12 hours
Rains flooded parts of Metro Manila and Mindanao over the weekend, forcing the evacuation of several families to safer grounds.
According to a "24 Oras" report by JP Soriano, residents of Alamada in Cotabato were stranded for 12 hours due to the flooded bridge and the raging waters.
They were able to cross the bridge only on Sunday morning, when the water subsided.
However, not all sections of the bridge were completely dry, requiring careful navigation.
Some residents had to be carried to get to the other side of the bridge.
The floodwaters also destroyed corn crops in Alamada.
Water also rose in the stream in Kalasuyan, Kidapawan City.
This gave residents a sleepless night for fear of the rising water.
In Davao City, at least 14 individuals were evacuated due to the flooding.
Meanwhile, residents in Barangay Tandang Sora in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental were surprised by the raging water in the river, which happened even when there was no rain.
Authorities said the water possibly came from heavy rains in the nearby mountains.
A dog narrowly escaped being swept away while crossing the river.
Heavy rain was also recorded in Jolo, Sulu.
PAGASA said thunderstorms, easterlies and the intertropical convergence zone caused the downpour in Mindanao during the weekend. —LDF, GMA News
