Davao City landfill collapse claims one life, two seniors missing

One was confirmed dead after a landfill in Davao City collapsed on Wednesday afternoon, with two senior citizens reportedly missing.

According to a report in “24 Oras”, at around 1:00 p.m., a mountain of garbage suddenly collapsed from the rear section of the sanitary landfill in Barangay New Carmen.

The pile of garbage swept the nearby houses.

A relative of the lone fatality said that they were gathering their piglets when the tragedy happened.

Meanwhile, two elderly individuals are being searched for after their house was buried.

Two other individuals were also reportedly wounded and brought to the hospital.

The continuous rains in the area are one of the possible reasons being considered for the trashlide incident.
