Sara Duterte eyes livelihood aid for Zamboanga del Sur women's group
Vice President Sara Duterte met with members of a women-led community organization in Zamboanga del Sur to discuss possible livelihood support from the Office of the Vice President (OVP).
In a Facebook post, Duterte said she visited the group Makabagong Ina at Kababaihan Tungo sa Asenso (MIKA) during a trip to Pagadian City in March.
“Masaya tayo na makausap at personal na makumusta ang ilang miyembro ng grupong Makabagong Ina at Kababaihan Tungo sa Asenso (MIKA) ng Zamboanga del Sur nang tumungo ako sa Pagadian City noong Marso,” Duterte said.
(We are pleased to have spoken with and personally checked on some members of the Makabagong Ina at Kababaihan Tungo sa Asenso (MIKA) group in Zamboanga del Sur when I went to Pagadian City in March.)
She said the discussion included an exchange of ideas on how the OVP could extend support to the group and its members.
Duterte did not disclose specific assistance that would be extended to the Zamboanga del Sur group but emphasized continued engagement with grassroots organizations.
MIKA is a community-based organization composed of mothers and women that aims to promote empowerment through livelihood opportunities and participation in community activities, according to Duterte.
The Vice President said that a MIKA chapter in San Pedro, Laguna, was the first beneficiary of the OVP’s “Mag Negosyo Ta ‘Day” program, which provides support for small-scale livelihood initiatives. —VBL, GMA News
