67-year old man dies of stroke while in line for DSWD cash aid in Cagayan
A 67-year old man who was set to receive around P10,000 in cash aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Cagayan died of a stroke while waiting in line.
In the report of GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon on Monday, Wilfredo Corpus momentarily left his place in line to eat and relieve himself. He failed to return.
Corpus, a resident of Barangay Anquiray in Amulung, Cagayan, is believed to have suffered a fatal stroke.
His sister, Shirley Cielo, said her older brother was excited to go to the provincial capitol in Tuguegarao City where financial aid was to be distributed.
One of the beneficiaries of the Emergency Cash Transfer Program of the DSWD, Corpus was supposed to collect P10,000. Unfortunately, he passed away before the scheduled time for its distribution.
Cielo said her brother became hungry and needed to go to the restroom so he briefly excused himself.
She said Wilfredo suddenly suffered a stroke and had to be rushed to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center where he passed away.
“Si Kuya nagpaalam sa akin na pupunta sa… iihi. May kasama siyang dalawang lalaki na pumuntang… kumain at umihi. Pero nung katagalan hindi naman siya bumalik sa pila,” Cielo said.
(My brother informed me that he was going to the restroom and then eat. He was with two men. But he did not return.)
Despite Corpus’ sudden death, the DSWD said it will give the cash aid originally intended for him to his family.
The DSWD also gave burial assistance while the provincial government also provided assistance to Corpus’ family. —RF, GMA News
