A councilman was shot dead inside a barangay hall in Calasiao, Pangasinan late Wednesday, May 27, 2026, with the attack captured on CCTV that showed the gunman chasing and shooting the victim repeatedly, police said.

Authorities identified the victim as Jodel Diolazo, 31, an incumbent barangay kagawad of Barangay Poblacion East.

CCTV footage showed a motorcycle stopping several meters away from the barangay hall around 11:35 p.m. A man then got off the vehicle and walked toward the building, where the victim was lying on a folding bed.

Police said the suspect attempted to shoot the victim initially but the firearm malfunctioned, allowing Diolazo to stand and run.

The suspect chased the victim and shot him from behind inside the barangay hall before firing another shot outside the building and fleeing the area.

Village watchmen who were patrolling nearby arrived moments later but appeared confused during the incident before heading to a police outpost, the footage showed.

Police said the victim sustained four gunshot wounds.

“Sa kanyang tiyan may tatlong tama tapos sa ulo may isang tama (He was hit in the abdomen thrice and he was also shot on the head),” Police Lieutenant Colonel Rodel Gabatin, chief of the Calasiao Police Station, said.

Investigators said they are pursuing several angles but declined to disclose details while the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities added that relatives told police the victim allegedly had no known enemies.

“Ongoing ang ating backtracking sa mga CCTV footage para ma-trace natin kung sino ang possible na mga suspek (Our CCTv backtracking is ongoing to trace the responsible suspects),” Gabatin said.

Police recovered four spent bullet casings and one slug from a .45-caliber firearm at the crime scene.

Family members of the victim appealed for justice following the killing.

“Sa gumawa nito sa aking kuya sana makonsensya kayo, buong pamilya namin ang nagdudusa ngayon (Whoever did this to my brother should feel guilty, our whole family is now suffering),” Jasper Diolazo, the victim’s brother, said.

In a statement, the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office condemned the violence and assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway. —Jasmin Gabriel-Galban, GMA Regional TV
