Father and son among six fatalities in Angeles City building collapse
A father and son have been identified as two of the six people who have died as a result of the building collapse in Angeles City on May 24.
In Oscar Oida's report on "24 Oras" on Friday, the remains of 51-year-old Roberto Sabile were recovered from the rubble on Friday, May 29. He was the father of 26-year-old Christian Sabile, whose body was recovered a day earlier. They were both construction workers on the site.
The other fatalities, according to the Angeles City LGU, are the following:
- Mond Reza Abdullah (male, 65 years old)
- Mark Laurence Capungay (male, 21 years old)
- Porperio Alikaway (male, 66 years old)
- Unidentified (male)
The rescue team continues its search for 14 missing individuals.
The Angeles City Information Office reported that the responder heard knocking or tapping sounds from Sector 1 of the site. The Philippine Coast Guard then deployed a K9 unit to verify.
Life detector units and rescue radar equipment detected four entities around 4 p.m. However, the rescuers noted that the equipment they use can also sense live animals such as rodents.
Meanwhile, Angeles City Mayor Jon Lazatin II said that the owner of the collapsed building has expressed willingness to assist the victims and their families.
Lazatin also said that he is prepared to impose preventive suspensions on any local government employees who might have played a role in the building permit's approval.
The Department of Labor and Employment Region 3 had previously issued a work stoppage order for the project due to safety deficiencies.
Construction later resumed after the company reportedly complied with the agency’s requirement. — Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/VBL, GMA News
