Angeles City building collapse death toll now 25
The death toll in the collapse of an under-construction building in Angeles City, Pampanga rose to 25 after another body was recovered on Wednesday afternoon, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Central Luzon said.
The body was extracted from the rubble at 3:45 p.m. amid inclement weather.
"As heavy rain continues to pour, one more individual has been extricated from the collapse site at Brgy. Balibago, Angeles City," said BFP Central Luzon. "The confirmed casualties for this incident now totals at 25."
Twenty-seven individuals have been rescued from ground zero.
The nine-storey structure, which was planned to be a hotel, collapsed before dawn on May 24. Most of the victims were construction workers.
According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), there were possible violations of occupational safety and health standards in the construction site.
The construction project had previously been subjected to a work stoppage order issued by DOLE Central Luzon because of safety deficiencies. — VDV, GMA News
