Magnitude 5.3 aftershock hits off Sarangani coast — PHIVOLCS

A 5.3-magnitude earthquake hits off the coast of Balut Island, Sarangani late Monday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

The PHIVOLCS earlier reported the aftershock was measured at magnitude 5.7, was tectonic in origin with a depth of 10 kilometers.

The tremor that occurred at 10:52 p.m. was tectonic in origin with a depth of four kilometers.

The PHIVOLCS said the earthquake is an aftershock of the strong earthquake that hit Maasim, Sarangani early Monday morning.

Instrumental Intensities:

  • Intensity IV - Kiamba, Sarangani; T’boli, South Cotabato; General Santos City
  • Intensity III - Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat; Malapatan and Maitum, Sarangani; Surallah, Santo Nino, and Tupi, South Cotabato
  • Intensity II – Banga and Tampakan, South Cotabato; Isulan, Sultan Kudarat
  • Intensity I – City of Davao, Davao del Sur

As of 8 p.m., the Office of Civil Defense reported a total of 35 casualties.
