Most roads in Mindanao spared from structural damage after 7.8 earthquake, says DPWH
Most roads and bridges in Mindanao are free from structural damage following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake, according to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon.
“Ongoing na yung repair, minor lang yung mga semento lang na hindi naman structural, medyo bumigay nang kaunti pero… yung structure, yung pinaka-importanteng parts nung bridge ay intact,” Dizon said as he inspected roads and bridges in Davao City.
(The repair is already ongoing, it's just minor—just the cement that isn't structural gave way a little bit, but... the structure, the most important parts of the bridge, are intact.)
Meanwhile, the DPWH Region XII (SOCCSKSARGEN) reported that national roads and bridges within the area of responsibility of Cotabato 2nd District Engineering offices are passable to all types of vehicles.
“The national roads traversing the municipalities of Lebak, Kalamansig, Palimbang, Senator Ninoy Aquino, Bagumbayan, and Esperanza are passable to all types of vehicles,” it said in a social media post.
“Likewise, the national road from Sewod Section to Tinalon Section remains passable with no reported damage,” it added.
However, some roads are still closed to all types of vehicles, including:
- Barangay Tbolok – General Santos City Road (due to road collapse)
- The road section at Sitio Pormon, Brgy. Salasang, Arakan (due to a landslide in 2025)
Continuous inspection and monitoring of national roads and bridges are still being undertaken, DPWH Region XII said.
DPWH also reported that the Sarangani Provincial Hospital and Dr. Jorge P. Royeca City Hospital in General Santos City did not sustain structural damage.
Dizon said that operations remain ongoing at the hospitals, and patients are already being accommodated back inside the Sarangani Provincial Hospital.
