173K families affected by M7.8 Mindanao earthquake - OCD

A total of 173,000 families have been affected by the devastation caused by the Magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Southern Mindanao on June 8, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Sunday.

As of 9 a.m. on June 14, the OCD’s latest update said 173,000 families or approximately 724,000 persons have been affected in varying degrees by the tremor that hit Offshore Sarangani.

A total of 5,200 aftershocks ranging from Magnitude 1.2 to 6.4 have so far been recorded, 1,307 of which have been plotted and 76 were felt.

Deaths have totaled 61 individuals’, with 54 were reported from Region 12 and 7 from Region 11.

Injured cases are at 1,403, with 1,356 in Region 12, 46 from Region 11 and one from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

There are currently 40 persons who are reported missing: 22 in Region 11 and 18 in Region 12.

About 2,000 families comprising approximately 10,000 people have been displaced by the earthquake.

More than 1,000 families in Barangay Lagao, General Santos City lost their homes.

In financial terms, the cost of damage to infrastructure stands at P 1 billion. Inspection has so far determined damaged infrastructure at 725, of which 9,900 of these are houses. Partially damaged houses are 44,100.

A State of Calamity has been declared over 13 municipalities and cities.

The power supply of hospitals affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Mindanao has been restored, the Department of Energy (DOE) said Saturday.

The OCD said P67.6 million worth of assistance has been provided to affected families. —RF, GMA News
