Pulong Duterte greets dad Rodrigo, 'corrupt' officials on Father's Day
In his Father’s Day message, Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte thanked his father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, for his “strength and determination.”
“Pa, anuman ang mga hamong kinahaharap mo ngayon, may isang bagay na hindi magbabago—ang aming pasasalamat at pagmamahal para sa iyo bilang ama,” Duterte said in a Facebook post.
(Pa, whatever challenges you are facing today, one thing will never change—our gratitude and love for you as a father.)
(We have seen how strong and determined you are in protecting your family and the people you have served. And like many fathers, we know there are sacrifices whose true weight only you understand.)
The former president is detained at The Hague under the custody of the International Criminal Court for his crimes against humanity case.
It has been over a year since the former chief of state was arrested.
Duterte said his father served as his role model growing up, leading not merely through words but by example and sacrifice.
(You have shown that a father is not just a provider for the family. He is also the first to defend, the first to face trials, and the one willing to absorb the pain so his family won't have to experience it.)
In his message, Duterte also extended his greeting to certain government officials whom he described as “bangag” and “korap” in Bisaya.
“Bago ko pala makalimutan, isama ko na rin ang mga bangag at korap na mga ama na nasa gobyerno,” Duterte said as translated into Filipino.
(Before I forget, I might as well greet corrupt fathers in government.)
Duterte added.
