The mayor of Ubay has died at the age of 58, the local government announced on Monday.

The Ubay local government described Mayor Violeta Diangco Reyes as a leader who showed “unwavering commitment, compassion, and genuine concern for the welfare of the people of Ubay.”

“As we mourn this painful loss, we remember and honor her remarkable legacy of service, leadership, and love for the people. May her life continue to inspire us to work together for the betterment of our community, guided by the values she exemplified throughout her years of public service,” the local government said.

Reyes, who was born on July 23, 1967, is survived by her husband, Ubay Vice Mayor Constantino Reyes.

Her family has yet to disclose the cause of her death.

Ubay, about 102 kilometers from Tagbilaran City, the provincial capital, is a first-class municipality in the northeastern part of Bohol and one of the province’s largest towns.

It serves as a key trading and transport hub in eastern Bohol, particularly because of its seaport linking the province to Leyte and Southern Leyte.

In a separate social media post, the Provincial Government of Bohol also paid tribute to Reyes, describing her as a steadfast leader and dedicated public servant committed to the welfare of her constituents.

“The Provincial Government of Bohol mourns the passing of Violeta Diangco Reyes, Municipal Mayor of Ubay,” it said.

“Her contributions to her community and her passion for local governance have left a lasting mark on Ubay and the Province of Bohol,” it added.—MCG, GMA News
