Cebu Archbishop Uy to receive pallium from Pope Leo XIV in Rome
Cebu Archbishop Alberto "Abet" Uy is traveling to Rome, Italy to receive his pallium from Pope Leo XIV during a ceremony to be held at St. Peter's Basilica on Monday, June 29, 2026.
"Today, June 24, 2026, I will be leaving for Rome to receive the PALLIUM from the Holy Father, a sacred vestment worn by the Pope and metropolitan archbishops as a symbol of the Good Shepherd and of our communion with the Holy Father and the universal Church," said Archbishop Uy in a statement.
He said the ceremony coincides with the feast of the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul and will be attended by other newly appointed metropolitan archbishops from different parts of the world.
"I humbly ask for your prayers for me and for my fellow archbishops, that the Lord may grant us safe travel and help us to be faithful shepherds of His people," said Uy.
Uy was the bishop in Tagbilaran, Bohol when he was appointed by the Pope lead the Archdiocese of Cebu, replacing Archbishop Jose Palma who reached the age of retirement at 75.
Archbishop Uy is the fifth bishop of the Cebu archdiocese, which has more than 170 parishes.
In his statement, the prelate added that he wuld be staying in Europe for a few days to "make a pilgrimage to several holy sites in Europe. Please know that I will remember all of you and your intentions in my prayers."
