Magnitude 5.0 earthquake strikes offshore Davao Occidental

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake was recorded offshore Balut Island, Sarangani, Davao Occidental on Saturday morning.

The earthquake occurred at 4:07 a.m., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

The tectonic earthquake had its epicenter at 05.27°N, 125.40°E - 016 km S 8° W of Balut Island.

Its depth was at 10 km.

Instrumental intensities are as follows:

  • Intensity II: Kiamba, Malungon, Malapatan, and Maasim in Sarangani
  • Intensity I: T'boli, South Cotabato

PHIVOLCS said the magnitude 5.0 earthquake was an aftershock of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that occurred offshore Sarangani on June 8.

No damage and aftershocks are expected, PHIVOLCS added. —KG, GMA News
