Traffic enforcer hurt after SUV hits, nearly runs him over in Cebu City
A traffic enforcer was injured after he was hit and nearly run over by a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) in Cebu City.
In a GTV News Balitanghali report on Thursday, the incident caught by CCTV occurred at an intersection in Barangay Capitol Site on Wednesday.
The SUV driver claimed he did not see the victim despite standing in front of his vehicle.
CCTV footage showed the enforcer directing vehicles to stop at the intersection. A white SUV stopped in front of the victim.
The SUV stopped but as soon as the enforcer turned around, the vehicle moved forward and struck the unsuspecting victim from behind.
The enforcer fell to the ground and was fortunate to have crawled to safety before being run over by the SUV that continued to accelerate away from the scene.
The SUV stopped after a bystander who witnessed what happened ran after it.
According to the injured enforcer, he ordered the vehicles behind him to stop so as not to block the intersection due to the heavy volume of traffic.
In an investigation by the Traffic Enforcement Unit, the SUV driver, a senior citizen, claimed to have not seen the enforcer.
The TEU did not allow the driver to be interviewed, claiming the investigation is ongoing.
In a separate report by GMA Regional TV, police said it will file a complaint of direct assault with attempted homicide against the SUV driver based on what was caught by the CCTV camera where the enforcer was almost caught underneath the SUV. —RF, GMA News
