Parts of Mindanao have experienced the effects of the Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat, enhanced by cyclone Inday.

According to Mariz Umali’s report in “24 Oras” on Thursday, a portion of a bridge in Maitum, Sarangani collapsed due to the raging river amid the heavy downpour.

Meanwhile, the residents of Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat were surprised by muddy floodwater just less than an hour before the rain poured. They lamented that the flooding was worsened by the overflowing of a nearby creek that has become shallow due to its silted state.

Also in Sultan Kudarat, students and teachers of a school in Bagumbayan helped in removing the waste that clogged the waterway amid the flooding in their area.

A school in Kalamansig is also in a similar situation as teachers tried to salvage their items in the flooded classrooms.

Further, residents of Pigcawayan, Cotabato, waded through calf-high floods. A portion of the city highwalk in Kidapawan was also damaged due to the rains.

In Talayan, Maguindanao del Sur, authorities had to rescue affected residents due to chest-deep floods.

In Maguindanao del Norte, rescuers used rope to cross through the floodwaters.

In Luzon, on the other hand, the huge waves in Basco, Batanes are enough proof of the super typhoon. Batanes is currently under Signal No. 2.

There are also huge waves seen in Dilasag, Aurora Province. –Vince Angelo Ferreras/NB, GMA News
