Magnitude 5.5 earthquake hits off the coast of Balut Island, Sarangani

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake hit off the coast of Balut Island, Sarangani in Davao Occidental early Saturday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

The quake, which occurred at 12:12 a.m., was tectonic in origin with a depth of 14 kilometers.

The earthquake was also felt in the following areas:

• Intensity IV - General Santos City; Malapatan and Glan, Sarangani; Tupi, Sout Cotabato
• Intensity III - Kiamba and Maasim, Sarangani
