Magnitude 5.1 earthquake strikes off Davao Oriental
A magnitude 5.1 earthquake was recorded off the coast of Baganga, Davao Oriental on Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
The earthquake occurred at 7:06 a.m. with epicenter at 07.51°N, 126.68°E - 015 km S 61° E of the municipality of Baganga.
The quake had a depth of 28 km and was tectonic in origin.
Intensity III was recorded in Taragona, Davao Oriental; Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; City of Digos, Davao del Sur; City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur; and Talacogon, Agusan del Sur.
Intensity II meanwhile was felt in Maco, Compostela, Montevista, and Mawab in Davao de Oro.
The City of Tandag in Surigao del Sur on the other hand felt the earthquake at Intensity I.
No damage is expected but aftershocks may occur, it added.
The earthquake was first reported by PHIVOLCS as having magnitude 5.6, then was downgraded to magnitude 5.1 in an update. —KG, GMA News
