62 persons rescued after motorboat encountered engine trouble off Tawi-Tawi, says PCG

At least 62 persons were rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) after their motorboat had engine trouble off the coast of Bongao in Tawi-Tawi on Monday, July 27, 2026.

The Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Bongao, Marine Environmental Protection Unit (MEPU) and Special Operations Group (SOG) boarded M/L Piaksah to conduct a search and rescue operation.

The team found M/L Trisha Mae then safely towed it to the Port of Bongao, the PCG said in a statement, adding that the team arrived by 10:30 p.m.

"Philippine Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan commended the responding personnel for their swift and coordinated actions, emphasizing that timely maritime response remains vital in protecting lives at sea," the PCG said.
