At least six passengers were rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) after their motor banca capsized off the shore of Barangay Pura, Datu Blah Sinsuat in Maguinadao del Norte on Wednesday July 29, 2026.

"The PCG immediately launched a search and rescue operation after receiving a report from a concerned citizen," the PCG said in a statement.

Based on an initial investigation, the motor banca came from Barangay Pura and was on its way to Barangay Nalkan when strong waves damaged its left outrigger, causing the vessel to capsize.

The rescued passengers were brought to the Rural Health Unit for medical assessment. They have since been discharged and in stable condition.

PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil L. Gavan commended the responding personnel for their swift and coordinated actions, underscoring the Coast Guard's commitment to protecting lives at sea.

"The successful rescue reflects the PCG's commitment to iCARE (Intensified Community Assistance, Awareness, Response, and Enforcement) program and ONE (Organized National Engagement) at Sea strategic concept through prompt, reliable, and compassionate maritime emergency response," the PCG said. — BAP, GMA News
