Rising river prompts flood monitoring in Pangasinan

Continuous rains brought by the southwest monsoon, enhanced by Tropical Depression #LuisPH, caused flooding and stagnant rainwater in parts of Pangasinan on Monday, August 3, 2026, prompting authorities to closely monitor rivers and low-lying communities.

The Calasiao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) said portions of the Dagupan–Calasiao Road were flooded after hours of heavy rainfall.

MDRRMO spokesperson Kristine Joy Soriano said there were no reports of major flooding as of Monday, although stagnant rainwater had formed in several roads across the town.

"Wala pa tayong report ng significant flooding, although meron tayong mga na-observe na mga isolated cases na nagkaroon ng stagnant rain water sa ating mga ilang kalsada dito sa bayan ng Calasiao," she said.

Barangay Lasip remains one of the municipality's most flood-prone areas. Residents said floodwaters can rise above head level whenever the Marusay River overflows.

Tirso de Vera, a resident, said they would be forced to evacuate if floodwaters reached their home.

"'Pag inabot na 'tong bahay, talagang mapipilitan kaming lumikas… Dati lubog 'to eh. Lubog kami dito. Ako, lubog ako dito. Malalim po.” De Vera said.

Soriano said the MDRRMO continues to coordinate with barangay officials to monitor vulnerable communities.

"Patuloy ang coordination down to our barangay levels at nag-suspend na din po ng klase all levels, both public and private, sa bayan ng Calasiao for today," she said.

Authorities said the Marusay River was at 1.1 feet above its normal level as of Monday.

Meanwhile, in Alaminos City, the Barangay Quibuar Council warned that its dam was nearing capacity as water levels continued to rise due to persistent rains.

The council advised residents to stay away from the dam and nearby rivers and remain in safe areas while the bad weather persists. —GMA Regional TV News
