Floods, landslide hit parts of Central, Northern Luzon

Flooding and a landslide affected several areas in Central and Northern Luzon as persistent rains brought by the southwest monsoon and a recent storm disrupted travel and forced some families to evacuate.

In Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, floodwaters inundated a major road in Barangay Bagong Silat, reaching knee level in some areas. Motorists struggled to pass through the flooded road, while residents had to wade through the water to cross.

In Cabanatuan City, flooding affected 14 barangays, including Barangay San Juan ACCFA, where floodwaters reached knee level along the middle section of a road. Several families were evacuated, while some residents used boats to move around flooded communities.

In Calasiao, Pangasinan, a covered court in Barangay Cabilocaan was inundated, forcing children to stop playing basketball. Residents said flooding has long been a problem in the village due to its low-lying location and inadequate drainage system. Village officials said they plan to improve the drainage network to help reduce flooding.

Meanwhile, a landslide occurred in Adams, Ilocos Norte after continuous heavy rain sent mud and rocks onto a roadway.

Local authorities immediately carried out clearing operations to reopen the affected area and urged residents to remain alert as continued rainfall could trigger more landslides. —GMA Regional TV News
