Half a week's worth of rain inundates Iloilo

A half week’s worth of rain poured down on parts of Iloilo Province, inundating several areas in at least three local government units evening on Monday, August 10, 2026.

The downpour lasted for one and a half hours.

“Half week’s worth of rain, ibinuhos niya in 1.5 hours. Consequently, hindi ito kaagad maka-accommodate sa ating drainage system, kaya bumabaha siya,” said Rommel Jamerlan, head of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of the town of Pavia.

In Pavia, seven barangays were flooded that 59 families or 215 individuals had to evacuate temporarily.

They have since returned to their homes.

Floodwaters also rose in Barangay Alegre in the town of Oton, which affected public transportation.

At least 36 families in 10 barangays were affected by flooding.

“Malalim ang tubig. Ganito talaga dito… diyan lang kami dumadaan sa kabila,” said Totong, a tricycle driver.

(The floods were high. It's like that here... we just pass on the other side.)

In Iloilo City, floodwaters affected residents in Onate-De Leon in the Mandurriao District and in Barangay Santo Domingo in the Arevalo District.

In Barangay Santo Domingo, up to 50 houses were affected by the flood.

According to PAGASA, the downpour and winds were caused by localized thunderstorms in the region, and not by the southwest monsoon.

“Hindi siya southwest monsoon kasi ang southwest monsoon umakyat na siya, sa Luzon nakaka-apekto,” said Jan Baron, Weather Facility Technician.
