2 dead, 1 hurt in Maragondon, Cavite resort shooting

Two people were killed while another was injured in a shooting incident at a resort in Maragondon, Cavite early Wednesday, according to the Cavite Police Provincial Office.

In a statement, the Cavite Police identified the deceased victims as a police staff sergeant and a civilian, while the injured victim was identified as a police corporal.

The shooting happened at around 1:30 a.m. at the resort after the individuals involved were reportedly about to leave and got into a heated argument at the parking area.

Responding personnel from the Maragondon Municipal Police Station immediately proceeded to the scene, secured the area, and conducted an initial investigation.

The Cavite Police said the suspect is a 35-year-old police corporal who is assigned to the Trece Martires Component City Police Station.

The suspect was arrested and is currently under police custody at the Maragondon Police Station, according to the police.

Recovered were two 9mm pistols from the scene, including a Glock 17 issued to the suspect and a Pietro Beretta issued to one of the cops involved.

The firearms were turned over to the duty investigator for proper documentation and evidence handling. The Cavite Provincial Forensic Unit was also asked to process and document the crime scene.

As an immediate administrative measure, the chief of the Maragondon Police Station was relieved from his post and placed under the Cavite Personnel Holding and Accounting Section pending investigation.

Cavite Provincial Director Police Colonel Ariel Red said he personally went to the area after learning about the incident to ensure that proper procedures were being followed.

“This is a serious incident, especially with police personnel involved. I personally went to the area as soon as I was informed to make sure that all actions were being taken properly,” Red said.

“We will follow the process, preserve the evidence, and let the investigation establish the facts. No one is above the law, including members of the PNP,” he added. —AOL, GMA News
