State of calamity declared in Pampanga due to Habagat impact

The entire province of Pampanga has been placed under a state of calamity due to the effects of the enhanced Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, its public information office (PIO) said Wednesday.

In a statement, Pampanga PIO said the declaration was made through Resolution No. 10524 as flooding continues to affect communities across the province.

Based on data as of Wednesday noon, a total of 860,076 individuals or 269,775 families have been affected by the inclement weather.

Flooding was reported in 297 barangays across 17 local government units, while 7,731 individuals have been evacuated, according to the PIO.

The province has also recorded more than P505 million in agricultural damage, affecting 3,787 farmers and fisherfolk.

The declaration of a state of calamity is expected to facilitate the faster use of calamity funds and the delivery of relief, emergency response, and other forms of assistance to residents severely affected by the rains and flooding. —AOL, GMA News
