Bislig suspends classes, school work due to heat

Classes at all levels, as well as work for teaching and non-teaching personnel in public and private schools in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, were suspended by midday on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 due to the high heat index.

Mayor Florencio Garay issued an order suspending classes and work in schools after the heat index reached 42 degrees Celsius, which is classified as dangerous and may pose serious health risks to students and school personnel.

However, evening classes will continue as scheduled unless otherwise ordered or announced by authorities.

School heads were directed to ensure that students, parents, teaching and non-teaching personnel are informed properly of the suspension and to implement measures to protect everyone's health and safety amid the extreme heat.

The city government urged residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against the effects of extreme heat, including staying hydrated and prioritizing safety. — GMA Regional TV
