Flooding damages 5 Zambales flood control projects
Five flood control projects in Zambales were reported damaged by recent tropical cyclones and the Southwest Monsoon.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said the structures damaged include the San Juan Dike in Botolan, the Tanguay Slope Protection in Cabangan and the Sto. Tomas River Slope Protection in San Narciso. Damage was also reported in San Marcelino and San Felipe.
The damaged structures contributed to flooding in some communities, prompting residents to move to safer areas.
The PDRRMO said it was still waiting for the official report of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on the cost of damage.
Meanwhile, floodwaters also damaged facilities and equipment at Sta. Fe National High School in San Marcelino.
Strong currents also swept away a bridge used by students to reach the school.
The flooding occurred as the southwest monsoon caused rivers and waterways in parts of Zambales to rise.
In Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, residents experienced intermittent rain, sometimes accompanied by strong winds. Motorists, especially tricycle drivers, were urged to take care on slippery roads.
Despite the rain, residents in Barangay Pambuan, Gapan City continued the feast of their patron saint, San Roque.
Mass at the San Roque Chapel proceeded, with devotees outside using umbrellas. A procession was also held for the images of San Roque and the Mahal na Birhen La Divina Pastora of the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Gapan City. —GMA Regional TV News
