Student wounded in Zamboanga City shooting 'doing fine' —PDRRMO chief

The student wounded in the fatal shooting incident inside a school in Zamboanga City is recovering in the hospital, the provincial disaster risk reduction and management office head said on Wednesday.

"She's confined in the hospital and she's doing fine," said Elmer Apolinario, head of the Zamboanga City Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, in an interview with Super Radyo dzBB.

Two students died, including the shooter, on Tuesday following a shooting incident at Ateneo de Zamboanga University Junior High School.

Based on initial information, the shooter was able to enter the premises of the school carrying a high-powered firearm and a .45 caliber pistol.

Meanwhile, 21 other students had panic attacks and suffered minor abrasions during the commotion.

Ateneo de Zamboanga University suspended classes at all levels from August 18, Tuesday, to August 19, Wednesday, "to allow sufficient time to attend to the safety and well-being of our students and personnel."

Ateneo de Zamboanga University President Fr. Anthony “Ernald” Andal, SJ also declared the observance of a day of mourning and prayer on August 19.

According to Zamboanga City Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso, the student who carried out the shooting was reportedly under pressure over his grades and experiencing depression. —AOL, GMA News
