2 fishermen rescued by PCG in Balayan, Batangas, August 20, 2026

Two fishermen earlier reported missing in Balayan Bay, Batangas were found and rescued by Coast Guard personnel on Thursday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Saturday.

The fishermen said they encountered engine trouble in their motorbanca at around 3 a.m. Thursday while on their way to shore after fishing, the PCG reported.

They were not able to immediately ask for help or inform their families due to the lack of communication equipment.

After more or less 20 hours, at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, the missing fishermen were spotted by fellow fishers near Barangay Anak Dagat in the town of Lemery.

PCG personnel immediately responded and confirmed that the fishermen were safe.

Barangay health workers then checked on the fishermen after they reached shore, and said they were in good health.

The PCG then reminded fishermen to always bring communication and safety equipment before going out to sea. —KG, GMA News
