Presyo ng pinakamahal na gasolina sa US mas mura kaysa Pinas -- Recto

MANILA – Nanindigan nitong Biyernes si Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ralph Recto na dapat ibaba ng hanggang P8 bawat litro ang presyo ng mga produktong petrolyo sa bansa. Sa pagsusuri ng Oil Monitor ng Department of Energy, lumitaw na ang presyong ipinapataw ng mga kumpanya ng langis hanggang nitong Abril 16 ay umaabot sa P40.85 per liter sa premium plus unleaded gasoline; P39.71 per liter sa premium unleaded gasoline, at P39.07 per liter sa unleaded gasoline. “Assuming that oil companies had purchased their stock of Dubai crude at $50/bbl or P2,408/bbl based on an exchange rate of P48.16 to the dollar at that time, then pump prices of domestic gasoline should be about P32.16," ayon kay Recto. “However, if they had purchased Dubai Crude Oil in February or March as some of them keep an inventory of 30 to 60 days, then prices should even be lower," idinagdag ng kalihim. Ang presyo ng Dubai crude ay nasa $42.21/bbl o P2,024/bbl (P47.96 - $1) nitong Pebrero 20, sa presyong $44.51/bbl o P2,149/bbl (P48.29 - $1) hanggang nitong Marso 20. Batay sa umano sa historical data, sinabi ni Recto na nang umabot ang Dubai crude sa P2,176/bbl noong Pebrero 2005 ($39.70/bbl o P54.81 - $1), ang presyo ng domestic gasoline ay nasa P27.37 per liter, habang sa P2,495/bbl ($45.84/bbl at P54.44 - $1) noong Marso 2005, ang presyo ng domestic gasoline ay nasa P29.22. “Thus, interpolating the cost of domestic gasoline at P2,408/bbl given the above Dubai crude and pump prices, it would be at P32.16," paliwanag ni Recto. Idinagdag pa niya na maging ang pinakamahal na gasolina sa US ay nagkakahalaga lamang ng $2.343 per gallon o P29.57 per liter sa palitang P47.77 - $1 nitong Abril 20 (ang isang gallon ay katumbas ng 3.785 liters). “Government may not have the tools to lower oil prices under the deregulation law and therefore must collect the appropriate taxes from the oil companies so we may make the necessary investments for health, education, social protection to help the poor as well as in renewable energy," ayon kay Recto. Idinagdag pa ni Recto na, “when the global economy rebounds, oil prices will again hit the roof. Thus it is important for Congress to enact legislation that would empower the government to protect consumers." Una rito, idinepensa ni Energy Sec.
