Prosecutor na nagtakip ng tainga habang nagsasalita si Miriam, na-cite for contempt

Habang kinastigo ni Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago ang umanoy kawalang-kahandaan ng prosekusyon sa impeachment trial ni Chief Justice Renato Corona, harap-harapang tinakpan ng isang prosecutor ang kanyang mga tainga, na kuhang-kuha naman sa video ng media. Matapos siyang tumayo sa harap ng impeachment court upang ihayag ang kanyang pagkadismaya laban sa mga pambabatikos ni Santioago sa prosekusyon, hinarap ng senadora si private prosecutor Vitaliano Aguirre at inutusang lumabas ng impeachment courtroom. "Dapat po lamang na kahit ang isang senador ay judge at kami'y hamak na prosecutors, ang pinaka-importante sa isang tao ay respeto," pahayag ni Aguirre. "Kung nakasakit ang actuations ko po, I really did it purposely because totoo naman po na shrill ang voice, nasasaktan ang tainga ko," aniya. Sinang-ayunan naman ni Sen. Pia Cayetano ang mosyon upang i-cite for contempt si Aguirre. Agad namang humingi ng tawad ang prosecution team kay Santiago at sa korte. "On behalf of the prosecution, I would like to express our regrets for what happened to the honorable court especially to the lady from Iloilo for what happened. The private prosecutor is under control so we feel that we have to express our regrets," inihayag ni Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas. Apology accepted, but... Tinanggap ni Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, namumunong opisyal sa paglilitis, ang paghingi ng tawad ng prosecution, ngunit desidido na siyang ituloy ang naunang desisyon laban kay Aguirre. "I cannot, as a presiding officer, tolerate any disrespect of this court and to any of its members," ayon kay Enrile. "The person concerned was given a chance to explain what he did and why he did it and he openly admitted in court that he did it purposely because he felt offended, and so therefore it was a sign of his disrespect of this court and that cannot be allowed to pass and it must be dealt with according to the rules," dagdag pa niya. Pagkakasunduan ng Senado ang magiging hatol kay Aquirre sa caucus sa darating na Lunes. Binalaan na rin ni Enrile ang kapwa kampo laban sa paglabag sa mga alituntunin ng impeachment court. "We will no longer tolerate any behavior like this. If you want to participate in this proceeding you are welcome, but if you do not believe in the dignity of this court or its jurisdiction over you, if you think you are better than us, you're entitled to your opinion but we will enforce the rules of procedures that are applicable in a court like this," aniya. Planted? Sa panayam matapos ang paglilitis, inihayag ni Santiago ang kanyang kasiyahan sa pasya ng Senado laban kay Aquirre. "Ang isip ng mga judges na nakausap ko kanina, nakapaligid sila sa akin, na itong taong [Aguirrie]  talagang nagtatawag ng pansin. Sabi ng mga kapwa senador ko, hindi dapat iyon dahil hindi lang ako, baka sila rin, ay [ganunin] ng kung sino diyang bastos. Kaya united sila, maski isang senador walang nag-object," ani Santiago. "I think he [Aguirre] just has a mental disorder. A lawyer will never, never aggravate the judge," dagdag niya. Sa hiwalay naman na panayam, inihayag ni Santiago na maaaring "planted" lamang si Aquirre sa korte. Isang kilalang abugado si Aquirre na nagrepresenta kay Sen. Panfilo Lacson at Hubert Webb at ng iba pa. Naging bahagi rin siya sa government probe body na nag-imbestiga sa 2003 Oakwood Mutiny. Inihayag ni Santigao na ayon sa kanyang staff, sa gallery umano umuupo si Aquirre at hindi sa prosecution panel, kung saan palaging nakikitang nakatuya tuwing nagsasalita ang senadora. "All of a sudden, today, he sat smack dab in the middle of the front row of the prosecution panel.  He very conspicuously raised each hand against each ear.  The TV news service of a TV station known to be partial to the administration deliberately panned over this lawyer so that he could be seen on nationwide TV," aniya.   "The provocation could have been intended to raise my hypertension to an even higher level, precipitating either a stroke or heart attack.  Or the provocation could have been intended to make me deliberately lose my temper and make a spectacle of myself," dagdag niya. Dahil sa insidente, tumaas ang blood pressure ni Santiago ng 190/90. Ang normal blood pressure ay 120/80. Ayon kay Santiago, hindi siya magiging bahagi sa pagdedesisyon sa magiging kaparusahan ni Aguirre. Dagdag nito, hindi rin umano maapektuhan ang kanyang judgement sa impeachment trial. "The more my enemies try to persecute and intimidate me, the more I will continue with my present mode of behavior in the impeachment court," aniya. Sa impeachment trial ni dating Pangulong Joseph Estrada, hiniling ni Santiago ang mga miyembro ng audience na paalisin sa loob ng korte dahil umano'y tumitingin sa kanya "in a provocative way."  — Amanda Fernandez /LBG, GMA News
