Dagdag na imprastraktura isusulong vs. problema sa trapiko

Isusulong sa Senado ang pagtatayo ng karagdagang imprastraktura para sa ligtas na paglalakad at pagbibisekleta bilang alternatibong tugon sa problema sa trapiko.
 
Kabilang dito ang karagdagang bicycle lanes, covered walkways at footbridges, para maging kaengga-engganyo sa publiko ang pagbibisekleta bilang transportasyon at sa mga nais maglakad bilang ehersisyo.
 
Kasama rin dito ang muling pagbuhay sa river ferry system sa pamamagitan ng public-private partnerships.
 
Ito ang nilalaman ng Senate Bill No. 26, o ang  “Sustainable Transportation Act of 2013” na inihain ni Sen. Pia Cayetano.
 
Layon nito na matugunan ang traffic situation, polusyon at ang quality time na nawawala sa bawat indibiduwal dahil sa traffic sa pagsusulong ng  alternatibong pamamaraan ng pampublikong transportasyon.
 
“Other proposals under SBN 26 include the establishment of a Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) and alternative vehicle reduction schemes that encourage car-pooling and telecommuting (working from home),” ani Cayetano.
 
“As things stand, our MRT and LRT coaches are not enough to accommodate the millions of passengers who take these trains every day, while EDSA won’t get any wider to accommodate an ever increasing volume of vehicles. To compound all these, gasoline prices will keep going up and add more pressure to raise transport fares in jeeps, buses and taxis and further burden the public,” wika pa ng lady solon.  — Linda Bohol/KBK, GMA News
