Vigan, Ilocos Sur, kasama sa 28 finalists ng New7Wonders Cities

Napabilang ang Vigan City ng Ilocos Sur sa 28 lungsod sa mundo na pagpipilian para sa New7Wonders Cities campaign na magpapakita ng kahusayan at magbibigay inspirasyon para sa "global urban civilization.”

Sa website na New7Wonders.com, nakasaad na kasama sa listahan ng finalists ang Athens, Greece; Bangkok, Thailand; Barcelona, Spain; Beirut, Lebanon; Casablanca, Morocco; Chicago, USA; Doha, Qatar; Durban, South Africa; Havana, Cuba; Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam; Istanbul, Turkey; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Kyoto, Japan; La Paz, Bolivia; London, United Kingdom; Mendoza, Argentina; Mexico City, Mexico; Mumbai, India; Perth, Australia; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; Prague, the Czech Republic; Quito, Ecuador; Reykjavik, Iceland; St. Petersburg, Russia; Seoul, South Korea; Shenzhen, China; at Vancouver, Canada,

Pipiliin ang mananalong pitong lungsod sa pamamagitan ng botohan na dadaan sa tatlong bahagi ng eliminasyon na magtatapos sa Disyembre 2014.

Nakasama ng Vigan sa mga pinagpilian ang mga lungsod ng Maynila, Quezon, Davao, at Tagaytay.

Ang Vigan ay nakalista sa UNESCO World Heritage site kung saan makikita ang mahusay na pagkakapreserba ng mga lumang bahay at kalsada noong panahon ng pananakop ng mga Kastila.

Noong nakaraang taon, nakasama ang Puerto Princesa's Underground River ng Palawan sa listahan ng New7Wonders. — FRJ, GMA News
