Woman dies after falling into shopping mall escalator

A woman died after falling into an escalator at a shopping mall in central China's Hubei Province on Sunday morning.

 

The 30-year-old woman was taking the escalator with her son at 10:09 at a shopping mall in the city of Jingzhou. Surveillance footage showed that when they reached the upper floor, they stepped onto a floor plate, which suddenly gave way and the two fell inside.

 

The woman pushed the boy forward and a shopping mall employee, who was standing beside the escalator, grabbed him and pulled him to safety.

 

The woman then disappeared into the escalator.

 

Rescuers recovered the woman's body from inside the escalator at 14:00.

 

Local authorities are currently investigating the accident.  — Reuters
