Time magazine reveals shortlist for '2020 Person of the Year'
Time magazine has released its shortlist for 'Person of the Year' for 2020, a year that saw a pandemic that killed two million people, powerful storms, and "historic and unprecedented" US presidential election, among others.
1. Joe Biden - the former US Vice President and Democratic Party Presidential candidate, who Time magazine says "In a historic and unprecedented election, Joe Biden was named the 46th President of the United States. He broke former President Barack Obama’s record for the most votes ever cast for a presidential candidate."
2. Donald Trump - "Similar to every year he’s been in office, Trump’s had an immense influence on 2020. His Administration has been highly criticized for its response to the COVID-19 pandemic." Trump is contesting the outcome of the election.
3. Frontline Health Workers and Dr. Anthony Fauci - the nurses, doctors and other medical personnel have been on the forefront in the battle against the deadly COVID-19 and some of them have died doing their job. "They risked their lives and in doing so, saved countless other lives," the magazine says.
Fauci, on the other hand, is described as "One of those frontline workers, who spends part of his day doing rounds at the hospital" and "the most visible scientific leader in the US in 2020."
4. Movement for Racial Justice - "The tragic killing of George Floyd started a movement, not just in America but across the globe."
