Metro Manila had 143.5 mm of rain in 9 hours on Aug. 29, PAGASA said —MMDA

Some 143.5 millimeters of rainfall poured over Metro Manila in just nine hours, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, due to the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), data from PAGASA showed, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

"Base sa datos mula sa Science Garden Station sa DOST-PAGASA Compound, Quezon City, umabot sa 143.5 milimetro (mm) ang buhos ng ulan, sa loob lamang ng siyam oras o mula 9:00 AM hanggang 6:00 PM ngayong araw, Agosto 29," MMDA said in a Facebook post on Saturday.

(Based on data from the Science Garden Station at the DOST-PAGASA Compound, Quezon City, up to 143.5 mm of rainfall were recorded in nine hours, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM today, August 29.)

The amount of rainfall on Saturday was higher than the 103.4 mm of rainfall recorded on Friday, August 28, it added.

In all, 246.9 mm of rainfall were just recorded in two days due to the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

MMDA said its chairman Atty. Don Artes ordered the deployment of mobile pumps in low-lying areas that were flooded.

The MMDA Flood Control Team and Metro Parkways Clearing Group also immediately responded to take out garbage that may block drainage inlets.

MMDA traffic enforcers meanwhile were tasked to assist motorists amid heavy traffic on wet roads.

The agency continues to monitor flooded areas for immediate response, it added. —KG, GMA News
